A couple of nights a go I was thinking that I haven’t spoken much about where Jonny and I are at with our wedding plans, so I thought I would update you on what exactly is happening so far. Hopefully it may help if you’re currently planning your own wedding, now or in the future.
Let me tell you, time does really fly. We got engaged in Bangkok, Thailand on July 7th last year, to think that was six months a go is just crazy. It’s very hard to begin with, to know where to start. It’s so easy to go into panic mode when you start to think about everything that needs to done. I was adamant not to get stressed and to try and enjoy the organising, as it is a once in a lifetime event.
Planning
I must say I have been absolutely loving the planning so far. To begin with, if I’m being totally honest, I struggled to know when certain things had to be done or ticked off. A wedding diary my friend bought me really helped in knowing the above. Jonny & I got a wedding spreadsheet going where it has everything from organising your guest list, budget, logging address’ for invites and save the dates, it’s such a great checklist. I’ve linked it here. We also started a Pinterest board to help with the visualising of certain things we liked the sound of. Would totally recommend doing this as you can show it to certain people, whether that be the florist, venue, friends to give them an idea of what you both like.
We did initially consider a wedding in Puglia, Italy. After many calls with wedding planners it wasn’t feasible as a lot of the places we loved had already been booked for 2019 and we didn’t want to delay things until 2020.
Venue
The venue was the first thing Jonny and I thought about after we’d decided what country it was going to be in. Taking in to account the capacity, location, the flexibility and involvement when it comes to the food & drink, decoration, layout etc. We settled on out dream venue in an area where we both grew up. Getting married some where that holds memories and is familiar to us was important.
Guest List
I had visions of always having quite an intimate wedding ceremony and having a huge party/celebration in the evening. We have stuck to our guns and have around 90 day guests and 40 evening guests. If money was no object we would love to keep inviting.
The Dress
THE DRESS! Yes I’ve got the dress, within the first two months of being engaged the dress was purchased. It was so lovely trying on dresses with the most important women in my life being there. It was a special moment and one we will never forget. I really didn’t know what to expect as I’d never tried on a wedding dress before. I tried on eight dresses in total and ‘the one’ was number six of the eight. I didn’t want to try on lots and lots of dresses as it just confuses you and can become slightly over whelming. Let me just say, it makes me feel really special and I can’t wait to go for my fitting in June to try the dress on again.
Suppliers
It’s really easy to get carried away when it comes to choosing suppliers. We wrote a list of potential suppliers in which we found online, recommendations from friends and by attending wedding fairs. We have most things ticked off now including our photographer, florist, cake supplier, a lovely lady Ami who’s helping with the styling of the wedding and invitations are being sent out in the next couple of weeks which is super exciting.
I really don’t know where the last six months have gone when we got engaged. At the time it feels as though its ages away, but it really does come round. When me and Jonny were talking the other night and I was feeling slightly overwhelmed we came to the conclusion that everyone is going to be there to celebrate us. We really just want our big day to be a big party for our family and friends that everyone could (hopefully) remember forever. A special day for everyone, roll on the next five months!!
Let me know if you’d like to see more wedding content. I’m thinking of doing a wedding beauty/ fitness preparation post? G xx
Love this! Would you please mind sharing details on the florist, the Ami lady and the others involved? Would be very helpful. And also, congrats!! x
