Copenhagen City Guide

Copenhagen has been on my travel list for a while and is now one of my favourite European cities to visit. I knew we were going to love Copenhagen before we’d even got there. This was the first stop of our ten-day trip and we had planned to spend three nights here in Denmark. We absolutely loved our time here, it’s such a beautiful city and the food scene is unbelievable. I couldn’t wait to eat my way around the city!

Getting to Copenhagen is really easy. Flights are frequent from most parts of the UK taking only just under two hours from London Heathrow. We opted for the metro as our transfer at the other end as it was a quick journey only taking 15 minutes to the city centre. It roughly costs 36DKK one way which is the equivalent of £4.

Where To Stay

When it comes to finding a hotel I love to do my research, it usually comes down to finding somewhere in a good location with high rating reviews. We stayed at a small boutique – Hotel SP34, it was centrally located, had the most beautiful Scandi interiors, REN toiletries and a free wine hour every day between 5-6 pm. The bed was also super comfortable! We would 100% stay here again

What To Do

Rent a bike or explore on foot – Copenhagen felt like a relatively small city, you can easily wander between different areas on foot or by bike. Copenhagen is also the perfect place to grab a coffee and people watch.

Nyhavn – Take a stroll along the famous canal waterfront. You can also book a boat tour down the canal, which would be a great thing to do in the summer.

Botanical Garden – Located in the centre of Copenhagen, this garden was designed for peace and tranquillity. Full of historical glasshouses and all different species of plants. Somewhere to go and relax for sure.

Torvehallerne Market – A buzzing food hall, a great place to have a wander around with lots of traditional Danish food to try. There’s everything from fresh fish, local butcher stalls, flower stalls, street food, and alcoholic beverages.

Where To Eat

Baest – We booked in here for dinner on a recommendation and it was so so good. They focus on organic meats and produce, they even make their own charcuterie and fresh cheeses in-house. We ordered pizza no.3 with nduja, mozzarella, and oregano, alongside pizza no.8 with sausage, brussel sprouts, and pecorino.

Hija De Sanchez – After watching the Netflix series Ugly delicious I couldn’t wait to head here and try Rosio Sanchez’s famous tacos. We went to the one located in Kodbyen (the Meatpacking District). I loved the combo plate where you got one of each taco to try.

Juno the bakery – I’ve been waiting all of last year to visit here. Quite possibly the best almond croissant I’ve ever had. I was expecting queues but was straight in. They bake the most delicious and perfect looking pastries. Other pastries we tried were the cardamon bun and rose, pistachio escargot.

DØP – If you’re looking for a quick lunch stop by here and grab a hot dog. All ingredients are 100% organic, and their sausages have been developed in cooperation with Hanegal. They have seven different hotdogs some being garlic, pork with cheese and spicy beef.

Coffee Collective – If you’re a coffee lover like me, this popular spot is definitely worth a visit. Flat white for me, please?!

Host – A restaurant that serves the most incredible Nordic cuisine. The tasting menu is just fabulous. Not the cheapest meal we’ve ever had, but every single dish from the tasting menu was memorable. Definitely one not to be missed!

Gasoline Grill – Expectations were high on this place after it was voted among one of the best burgers in the world. I went for the butter burger with truffle chips. Really delicious and simple, not too messy to eat or soggy. Not sure it is the best in the world, however, I would definitely eat again and again and recommend to visit.

At The Counter – A cafe owned by the guy behind Juno Bakery. They have a small but great menu. The bacon and egg croissant is lush, great coffee as well.

Hallernes Smørrebrød – We found this place in the Torvehallerne food market, absolutely loved the Smørrebrød (open sandwiches) here. This was a pre-dinner snack. We went for the fried plaice, remoulade, dill, capers, and lemon alongside the roast beef, horseradish, pickles, and fried onions. SO delicious!! Go here for a quick value lunch.

I’m already planning my trip back to Copenhagen, maybe in the summer next time.
