Travelling Around Thailand and Tips On What To Do

Thailand has a special place in my heart, I always feel so happy when I’m there. I’ve been to Thailand three times and I’m getting itchy feet to visit there again. I love the people, the food, beaches, the list could go on. The last two times I’ve visited, I’ve visited with my boyfriend Jonny. We started off our trip in Bangkok where we stayed for a couple of nights, which I find is a good amount of time to see the city. If your not on a budget, I’d recommend the Metropolitan by COMO hotel or The Banyan Tree hotel.

Things to do in Bangkok

  • Visit Chatuchak weekend market (it has over 8,000 stalls)
  • Book in at Nahm restaurant at Hotel Metropolitan
  • Have drinks at the roof top bar Vertigo at the Banyan Tree Hotel
  • Experience a night down Khao San Road
  • Visit the Temples (The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Keaw)
  • Experience a Tuk Tuk ride

From Bangkok we got an a flight to Chiang Mai, northern Thailand which is just over an hour. This is my favourite place in Thailand, there’s something about Chiang Mai that is so relaxing, laid back and the food is very different from other parts of Thailand. We stayed in a family run hotel, which I would highly recommend if you are visiting, Ruin Come In. We stayed here for four nights and I loved every minute of it, the staff were very friendly and helpful, there was a pool where we relaxed during the day and in the morning we would go down for a thai breakfast where they would take our order the night before and set it out beautifully in the morning.

Things to do in Chiang Mai

  • Rent a motorbike and visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a temple in the mountains.
  • Try Kao Soi, Chiang Mai’s signature dish and also papaya salad
  • Visit SP chicken
  • Visit Chiang Mai zoo
  • Experience the Night market

After a few days in Chiang Mai, we flew south, to Phuket and then on to travel around the islands Koh Samui and Koh Tao. Our time in Koh Samui was very chilled where we relaxed on the beach. We stayed at Centara Grand Beach Resort in Koh Samui which was amazing.

Things to do in Koh Samui

  • Visit Big Buddha temple
  • Go to Namuang waterfall the most beautiful waterfall
  • At night visit Lamai market where you can try and experience Thailand’s street food
  • Watch the sunset from a high point

We rented a boat from Phi Phi and our driver took us around the island where we relaxed with some food and drink. We also were able to swim and snorkel in the clear blue sea, it was the best day!

One of my favourite thai dishes is yum nua (thai beef salad). We ended our time in Koh Samui then got the ferry to Phuket which is where we got the night train to Bangkok. It wasn’t the most glamorous of journey’s but for the price I couldn’t really complain. It was an experience 🙂 Have any of you experienced the night train before?
