Launch of STK London & Scotch

I was kindly invited to the launch of STK & Scotch, a modern steakhouse in London. It introduces a unique pairing menu in collaboration with Glenfiddich single malt Scotch Whisky. Created by STK London’s Culinary Director Barry Vera and Glenfiddich’s UK Brand Ambassador Mark Thomson; The idea of the tasting menu is to explore the unique flavour profiles and pairings between the iconic single malt Scotch whisky and STK renowned USDA steak.

Each of the five courses on the STK & Scotch menu were served alongside a cocktail or neat serving of Glenfiddich, using five different expressions of the single malt Scotch whisky, which increased in age with each course, it gave such a wide variety of flavour combinations. I’m now a whisky convert after not being a big whisky drinker.

We started with a Glenfiddich 15-year-old, chestnut liqueur, honey, thyme, Angostura bitters and lemon juice.

Up next was Lobster with powdered extra white olive oil. Paired with a Glenfiddich 12-year-old, this had flavours of light vanilla and fresh pear, that harmonised well with the seafood

Foie gras & beer caramel. This was served alongside an old fashioned cocktail with Glenfiddich 15-year-old Solera. This was a dry, yet sweet cocktail that had a orange citrus taste.

This was my favourite dish, 6 hour cooked USDA prime beef fillet with caramelised shallots and parsley purée. This was matched with a Glenfiddich 18-year-old with rich fruit, warm spices hints of citrus and sweet malt notes.

Hot chocolate fondant with chocolate & olive ice cream. This was accompanied with a Glenfiddich 21-year-old Gran Reserva rum finish with aromas of ripe banana, toffee and savour spice – a perfect pairing for those with a sweet tooth, like me!

To finish we had Montgomery cheddar & Eccles cakes. This was paired with the show stopping Glenfiddich 26-year-old excellence. Taken from 100% American white oak casks, this Glenfiddich delivered waves of salted caramel and light oak.

The STK & Scotch pairing menu is available now until the end of December 2016 and will be offered as an add-on to the usual menu. STK & Scotch is available as either a three course set menu priced from £85 or a five course set menu priced between £120-£165, between Sunday and Thursday. The five course menu is available both with and without Glenfiddich’s 26-year-old whisky. The Solera Slipper is an additional £10 as an add-on, this was a favourite of mine from the tasting menu, so would definitely recommend trying it.

Have any of you tried STK London before?

G xx
